Jesus teaches that we should not store our treasure on earth, but store our treasure in heaven. "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also" Matthew 6:19. How do we reconcile this with Solomon's wisdom concerning the wise storing choice food and oil quoted in part 1?
Proverbs refers to a physical store which is considered prudent and necessary to provide for winter months when food is not readily available. Jesus' message is aimed at the attitude towards that store and the consequent hold that the store has on you when it is built up not for practical reasons, but purely as a treasure. It is not the store that is the problem, but both the reason for and your attitude towards that store that can be a problem. Once you build the store - in modern terms money - for the sake of having it, it will control your life. It becomes your master. "No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate one and love the other or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money" Matthew 6:24.
